Asexual Perspectives by Sandra Bellamy (Book Review)

Ever heard of asexuality? Or thought you might be asexual, because you just don’t feel the same way about sex as others do?

“The book was a revelation for me. It showed me, not just through Sandra’s view, but through the perspective of 46 other people, that asexuality wasn’t something that made me broken, and that many other people shared at least some of my experiences. And also that maybe I wasn’t destined to be alone forever.”

A Voice in the Void

I thought that I would do a review of a book written by Sandra Bellamy regarding asexuality. She has written a few books (I’ll likely review others) and is currently writing another as I write this, which should hopefully be available soon.

The book I shall discuss today is “Asexual Perspectives, 47 Asexual Stories” with the extended title “LOVE, LIFE and SEX, ACEelebration of ASEXUAL DIVERSITY”.

Asexual Perspectives was released in 2017 by Sandra Bellamy, who has her own publishing imprint.

Before I discovered asexuality, in 2014, I thought that I was alone and broken. Even once I had discovered asexuality, for the first few years it was still difficult to come to terms with. Most people weren’t asexual, and most of my relationships/dating experiences were failures because they were all with sexual people, and I simply had no interest in sexual activity. I had tried to do some sexual…

Without Darkness There Would Be No Light! How to go from the darkness and into the light!

99fcade471061b1a05f528bfdaf8f5df

I used to think why is there so much hatred, darkness, and pain in life, and that there is no way I would wish anyone to be brought into this world, as it was horrible. I don’t think that way anymore as I am no longer depressed. What you focus on expands and I was focused back then on negativity, on the fact I didn’t like myself or my life. I watched TV and the news, which is full of rape, death, murder, violence and betrayal. News focuses on the bad and negative stuff, in order to grip you emotionally and scare you into coming back for more! To make you think, if you don’t watch it, something bad will happen to you, as you don’t know what is going on in the world. But the reality is, you create your own reality, and by focusing on that bad news each day, it makes you more fearful and scared of the world at large, and therefore you have to keep watching it, like a drug, in order to avoid the pain, when in reality, it is injecting pain into you, into your mind, into your body, until you become a fearful, sick, and nervous wreck. This is often subconscious, rather than conscious.

So what can you do?

  • You need to free yourself from the negativity and embrace the positive.
  • Stop watching TV and in particularly the news. Don’t read newspapers daily.
  • If you do watch TV, keep it to comedy, and things that make you feel love, laughter, and joy. Go into the light and cut out the dark on TV. Both the light and dark are there, but you have a choice! Don’t make excuses, make positive choices and positive changes in your life.
  • Be far more disciplined to get good thoughts, words, actions, and images, into your life, and put them into action constantly. Pay attention to the music you listen to, as well and the films you watch, and what you read. Ask yourself, if it is positive or negative. Then get rid of the negative.
  • Listen to positive affirmations daily to help get your mind into a positive state.
  • Know happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy! It’s your life.
  • Practise gratitude daily. Be grateful and thankful for what you have right now in your life, and every single day.
  • You are responsible for yourself, and your life, no one else.
  • Have courage to face your fears head on.
  • Trust your intuition.
  • Learn, develop, and grow yourself, and never stop learning.
  • Realise all the special qualities, skills, and abilities you have, and keep implementing them and recognising them.
  • Find your life purpose and live it.
  • Help others and it will help you to live a purposeful life
  • Realise that all the dark moments in your life, needed to happen, in order for you to learn, develop, and grow yourself, into the person you are today.
  • Be thankful for everything that happens in your life, good or bad, and know that everything happens for a reason, good or bad.
  • Know that when experiencing bad times, it means good times are just around the corner. The more bad and unhappy, the more fortunate and happy times are ahead. Because where there is darkness, there is always light around the corner

I now understand that without darkness there would be no light! But by focusing on the light, it helps to keep the darkness away, and to draw happiness, love, and light, to me always. Like a boomerang, light will ways come back to me, and I will never reside and stay in a pit of darkness and despair, ever again. I will always go back into light. I freed myself of depression in 2012, and even if things are not going the way I want them to, I know that time will pass and I will be happy and joyful again.

Right now, in this moment. My life is awesome. I won’t lie. I am nervous about the future, but also optimistic about it! I love my life and I am very thankful for living in my beautiful flat, for having a roof over my head and food in my belly. For having wonderful friends in my life and people who love me implicitly. A new guy has come into my life who I am very thankful and grateful for. He’s a cutie! And it’s my 3rd 21st mindset birthday next week! On 24th of April! Rock on!

Happy Good Friday and Happy Easter Weekend! What helps you go towards the light and keep out the darkness? Please write in the comments below, as I love to read you.

As always, keep being quirky you and write soon.

ASEXUAL PERSPECTIVES 47 ASEXUAL STORIES 5 STAR BOOK REVIEW FROM A NEWBIE TO ASEXUALITY!!!

on July 26, 2017
Format: Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

For something that I knew nothing about, this book was an upfront and personal invitation to dialogue with the asexuality community. I’m appreciative to the author for her dedication to give voice and visibility to a sexual orientation that currently has little in modern society and media. It’s amazing how different the people in this book are and how different their stories are. I thank them for their bravery and willingness to share their lives.

If you or someone else would like a harmless, cheap, enlightening, insightful, serious, and even entertaining read, then this is your next book.

I was absolutely thrilled to read this Awesome 5 Star Asexual Perspectives book review, from someone who is completely new to asexuality. They obviously thoroughly enjoyed reading Asexual Perspectives 47 Asexual Stories Book so much, and captured the spirit of this book in their review words. I was so happy they not only liked reading the book, but that the praise and recognition for the visibility of our orientation, is so greatly received.
This feels so good as a writer, that people love my written work, and it is written that well that people outside our asexual orientation, can understand it.
Never give up on your writing dreams.
Stay quirky always, and write soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars – before there was the relative wealth of information and acknowledgement that there is today – I think this book is a great idea

I’m writing this as someone who realised and rationalised his own asexuality a while back, before there was the relative wealth of information and acknowledgement that there is today – I think this book is a great idea and could be beneficial for many reasons. A few of the contributors have found ways to explain in such relatable terms, something that may be a struggle to put across to somebody who may be unfamiliar of asexuality. Any young people who may feel unsure of themselves or those just beginning to explore the possibility that they may be asexual should find something that rings true to them in this book. I’m sure it will be a helpful tool to them, showing them that many others have had this experience. Or allowing them to find a way to tell a friend or family member with clarity that ‘I am ace, and what that means is…’.
And for older aces, or even those just curious about asexuality- taken as a collection of experiences, it’s interesting to discover the common ground and massive variations across all the entries. For some it’s an intrinsic part of their personality and for others it’s a mundane fact they barely give a thought to.
If it had been around when I was younger it would have provided a certain amount of relief to come across this book and I hope it will do that for others now it’s here.
I have also changed my book cover wording to now read Asexual Perspectives: 47 Asexual Stories: Love, Life and Sex, ACElebration of Asexual Diversity. ( I added the stories part.)

ASEXUAL PERSPECTIVES, LOVE, LIFE and SEX, ACElebration of ASEXUAL DIVERSITY! Book!
ASEXUAL PERSPECTIVES, LOVE, LIFE and SEX, ACElebration of ASEXUAL DIVERSITY!What is Asexuality and what is the Asexual Spectrum

In broad terms Asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction, but what does this actually mean for those who identify with this sexual orientation? And what do asexuals really think of love, life and sex?

Whilst all asexuals have one thing in common – the lack of sexual attraction towards a specific person, we are all different in our likes, needs, wants and dislikes. This can make fitting into the asexual spectrum and finding a suitable relationship difficult.

Right now, there are a number of myths about asexuality and stereotypes – even within the asexual community, about what asexuals do and do not like, should and should not do, and these need to be addressed and broken through!

If you identify as asexual do you –

Struggle to have a voice in this sexualized world?
Feel alone?
Misunderstood?
Misplaced?
Broken?
Left out?
Not recognised?
Have no one to relate to?
Find it difficult to find others like you?
Feel like everyone is speaking a foreign language where sex is concerned?

Or are you unsure of your identity and sometimes get confused and you want to know what asexuals really think of Love, Life and Sex, and what experiences they have had or are having; and how they manage their relationships? If so, then look no further than this book. In this book you will discover asexuals who feel just like you.

In this book I will reveal my own asexual perspective and personal story as well as perspectives from 46 asexuals around the globe; dispelling myths and breaking stereotypes; sharing their own personal journey to help you in yours and with a surprising over-riding message!

In this book you will:

•Learn the asexual perspectives of Aromantics; Heteroromantics; Homoromantics; Panromantics; Grey Aces; Demi-sexual; Biromantic; Agender; Transgender; Polyamorous and many more.

•Uncover Asexuals’ deepest fears, concerns and worries about being asexual.

•Find out possible reasons why, in general, society does not accept asexuality as a sexual orientation in its own right and what we can do about this to change the world!

•Discover what asexuals really believe are the differences between sexual attraction, sexual desire and arousal.

•Find out what asexuals really think of nudity; porn; masturbation; BDSM and kinks.

•Discover what it feels like to have sex as an asexual and how to cope with the sexualized world that we live in.

•Find out what asexuals think about living together, about marriage and about having kids.

•Discover what an ideal asexual relationship would look like and whether asexuals believe a relationship with a sexual would be fair or not.

•Uncover the positives about being asexual.

•Find out what advice asexuals would give to a younger version of themselves regarding asexuality and what advice they would give to others who are just discovering they may be asexual.

I feel truly blessed that all interviewees have been willing to open up and share their most intimate moments, thoughts, feelings and emotions with you. What you are about to read is unique, amazing, interesting, sometimes candidly humorous, fascinating and insightful. This is their story, now it’s their time to tell it.

Off To The Vets Again!

My furry kids Snow and Chestnut
Snow (White) and Chestnut.

I love my Snow, she literally means the world to me and tomorrow she goes under anesthetic again. And she seems to be handling this news a lot better than me!

This morning I bathed her and Chestnut before work and you could see all the more, how much weight she has lost. Although her eyes and still bright and she is still strong inside and feisty – pushing past Chestnut at times and trying to climb out of the sink I bathed her in this morning. This is a recent picture of her before the most dramatic weight loss over this week.

On Friday she was dropping some piggie mix from her mouth and coupled with the weight loss, I felt it was best to get her to see a vet that day. Chestnut always goes with her – good job, as Snow was diagnosed with mites aside from possibly her teeth being overgrown again and confirmed weight loss. She was 1kg on 31st May, now 8.08. But both have to have mite treatment and Chestnut has to be weighed for this too.

The vet could not see Snow’s teeth for the tongue being attached to her cheeks so tomorrow the head vet will anesthetise her to take a closer look at what is going on! I pray it is nothing worse and that Snow will be okay.

I am feeling sad now so going to say write soon and always follow your heart!

Love and hugs

I like to count my blessings. I have many, including you, my loyal and loving Follwers, thank you.

I am have Snow and Chestnut, my mum and dad, and my good friends.

I love living in my flat in the big beautiful Victorian house I live in; and I love living in Exeter, 5 minutes walk from the picturesque and historic Quayside. I get to cross the Quayside bridge every day I go to work in my day job.

I just started work on my first non-fiction asexual book. It’s called Asexual Perspectives, Love, Life and Sex, ACElebration of Diversity. I am interviewing both Asexuals and asexual supporters fot it. I have two of each, already ready to be interviewed for it.

I am also being filmed for a short asexual documentary, have an Internet radio interview about my asexuality being recorded this Sunday; am being interviewed for a blog about my asexuality; and arranging another asexual in person meet-up, in my local area next month.

If you want to find out more about asexuality you can join my community on Facebook Find me on Facebook at Twitter Join me on Twitter; or Google Asexualise My Asexual Life, to check out my Asexualise channel and learn more. I go into very intimate and personal details about myself and past relationships on this channel, in order to help others, so if you are pro asexuality, please subscribe. The more awareness I can raise, the better. On Facebook I have sexual people who support my page by liking it and it helps to spread the word. Asexuality is a lack of sexual attraction, however, I am a Heteroromantic Asexual, so still desire a romantic relationship with the right guy.

It’s really hard for me to write this post. A few days ago, it was the first year anniversary of Snuggles’s death. Writing it a few days later, does not ease the pain I feel inside, although I had hoped it would not feel so raw.

This is the plant the vet sent to me after she died. Normally flowering plants die on me, but not this one. It has more flowers on it than last year.

Snuggles – I called my snugs for short, was a best friend to me, she licked the tears from my face when my Grandma passed away last year.

I feel too emotional to write any more.

I love you my Snuggles always and forever more xxxxxxxx
