The Journey That Saved My Life!

They say if you could pinpoint a single moment in time, when your life completely changed, what would that moment be?

For me, this was, that moment. And it occurred on October 5th 2012.

In fact, 2012, was the year that completely changed my life, for the better forever.

See this was me before, you can see it in my eyes can’t you? The pain, the sorrow, the worn and tired truth!

The fact was, I was depressed for years. I was suicidal at times. I didn’t see a point to life. And I definitely didn’t want to be in it.

I prayed to God with tears pouring down my cheeks, to just let it all end. To take me. To let me die. I begged him, time after time, with tears rolling down my face. I didn’t understand why he was torturing me being in this life. I didn’t see a point to this continuous suffering, the point of me being here. I honestly couldn’t see why I was here. I didn’t like my life. I didn’t like myself.

And when I finally did see that I was born to write, I had no direction with that writing.

And still I had times of suicidal thoughts… I used to look at a train track and think about death and dying. I used to look at a railway bridge, and think, about… well, you know…

No one now, would recognise me, how I was back then. But this is my truth, that no one’s really known about me. I was in a really bad way. I was in such a dark, deep, dark place. With no way out. It was like a hole swallowing me.

And as I look back and think about that time now. I’m welling up with tears once again. As I remember, going back into that body of me. And I remember how I felt and the loneliness and the pain, and that no one understood me. No one understood me, I was all alone, I was bullied at school. And I was made to feel, in life that I didn’t belong. That I was an alien here. And what was I doing here? What was my purpose? Why was I born? What was the point of me even being born? And you can feel it can’t you, in my voice? The sadness, the pain.

Look at me now and I’m a completely different person. And I want to tell you how that came to be…

It was on that day, on October 5th2012, that I began not just my entrepreneurial journey but my self-love journey. I finally saw all the skills, all the talents, all the abilities that I had gained over the years to date. And I realised that no longer was I helpless and hopeless in life with no direction, I actually had skills to offer the world. And it’s from that moment on, that I went to business seminar after business seminar, learning as much as I could about business, about finances, about customers, about customer acquisition, about email lists, about internet marketing, about email marketing, social media marketing. You name it, I learnt it. Time and time again. Over and Over. Different seminars, different angles. Different ways of thinking, of being, and doing.

In the course of my personal and professional entrepreneur journey I became such a stronger person. More informed. And I became resilient to knockbacks. To facing my fears. I faced my fears and pushed through them head on. Something I hadn’t been able to do before.

I got up in the middle of the night and worked hours and hours. I gave up television. And I began to learn how to do website design. I learnt the skills of T-Shirt designing. Something I never thought I would be able to do in my entire life. Every type of business that I was potentially interested in. I looked in drop shipping. I looked into Internet marketing. I looked into coaching and mentoring. I looked into making money through EBay and Facebook Marketplace. I looked through building a website and hoping customers would just turn up, which yes, of course they don’t. And yes, I just went from seminar to seminar, business show to business show. I got public speaking training, coaching training. You name it, I’ve done it.

And then I realised, it wasn’t actually doing the business as such, that made me happy, it was the fact that I had become a much more happier, stronger, resilient person, in the process of my entrepreneurial journey. Make Money Make Cash, is for me, is the process of becoming happy and happier within myself. Because I’m stronger. I’m more powerful and fearless than I’ve ever been in my life. I respect myself. I love myself. I value myself, more than ever. And I help a ton of people in the process. I learnt how to change peoples’ lives through the written word. Now I have my own publishing imprint, Quirky Books. It took me 7 years to get that publishing imprint. I write books that change peoples’ lives. Do I make a shed load of money at it? No. But am I happy? Yes. Do I want to live? Absolutely. And every day I get out of bed and look forward to writing, blogging, vlogging, social media marketing. And nothing, nothing, feels better, than when I get a message in my inbox saying, I was broken, I felt suicidal, but now because of your book, I want to live, and I know that I’m okay.

Why it’s Important to Date Yourself!

Hi everyone

image

image

Tonight I am going on a date with myself.

After work, I am going for a meal in Nandos and then the cinema, with healthy popcorn to eat.

It’s important to date yourself, to reconnect with your inner being and the essence of who you are.

When we have relationships with others; whether that is with family, friends or loved ones, it can be amazing, and you can gain a lot through interaction and spending time with each other. You can also lose yourself if you don’t take action to spend time with yourself doing what you love and what were born to do. If you lose yourself, you can feel disorientated, surreal, and like you are living through others. You could be in effect be killing your own personality off in the process, and losing your quirky self. This can transpire into anxiety, nervousness or even panic, which will then affect your relationships.

When sharing activities with others, such as going to the cinema, a pub or a club, you need to consider what they want to watch and where they want to go too. There is a sense of caring and nuturing about those around you, and to be caring and thoughtful, is a beautiful thing. However, sometimes it’s good just to go somewhere on your own and do whatever you want, whenever you want. To feel free and be uncompromised. To strip it back to the bear essentials of what is true to you. To be your naked, quirky self. Once you reignite or reinforce your passion and love for yourself, it allows others to love you more.

If you are worried about taking time out to date yourself, because of what others may think or feel, just explain to them what’s going on, and that you need some quality ‘you’ time to bond with yourself. That it doesn’t mean you care, like, or love them any less. You need to feel stronger in yourself, to be able to give your best to them. So long as you are communicating it in a way that will enhance your relationship with them, and they don’t feel you are cutting them off, then why should they mind.

Another thing you can do, is to set ‘special’ time aside for them, after your date with yourself. So in effect, you are giving them some bonding time with you to look forward to, and rewarding their understanding of dating yourself.

If you are in a relationship and you both love dating yourself, you may be able to co-ordinate your ‘you’ time, so you are both dating yourself at the same time. Thereby taking less time out of your together time. Similarly, if one of you is with their friends and family, that is a great opportunity to date yourself, providing you haven’t got any outstanding things to do, that would stress you out if they didn’t get done.

Whatever you decide to do, spending quality dating time with yourself is a must. Even if you have got 55,000 tasks to do. It’s essential for your own happiness, health and wellbeing. So go and enjoy it and have fun.

How do you date yourself?

You can read more about reconnecting with your inner being, in my new Break through the barriers of redundancy book. That will be available to buy on Amazon.

Until next time; embrace your quirky, write soon, and stay positive.

Snuggles Joins in Blog Tour Fun!

Hi everyone

In case you missed it, last week I took part in the Blog Tour.

Unfortunately, due to formatting issues with coding in WordPress, my answers to the four Blog Tour questions, were bunched up. Not the sort of layout I usually allow on my blog, or want for you. Here is my attempt to answer the questions again.

Thanks to Carolyn Huges from The Hurt Healer for tagging me, I have the opportunity to share some exclusive insights into my Break through the barriers of the redundancy book, as part of The Blog Tour. As a Freelance Writer Carolyn’s work can be vast, in her blog tour post, I believe she has captured the essence of why her blog and writing are so popular:

“Although there are lots of blogs of a similar genre to mine, I think what makes The Hurt Healer different is the amount of sharing of myself that is included in each post. When you read my blog, you read the work of my authentic self and not just the facts of the subject.”

Check out the full post: http://carolynhughesthehurthealer.com/2014/05/04/writing-the-blog-tour/

What am I working on?

I am still working on the final amendments of my book: Break through the barriers of redundancy to get back into work: An A-Z ‘How to’ guide. I keep saying final amendments because I keep finding things to amend, although some of my latest amendments are not needed because the original work is better. That is how I know it is almost ready for publishing. At the moment it is indexed for the 131 A4 pages, but once it’s uploaded to CreateSpace on Amazon, it will be almost twice the number of pages in booklet format and therefore I will need to re-index and repaginate it beforehand. A writer’s work is never done!

How does my work differ to others of its genre?

It is different because it takes a holistic view of redundancy, treating the inner being before treating the outer being. It’s about dealing with the initial grief and depression of redundancy, going back to the roots of what you were born to do, before family and other commitments took priority and finding out what you really want to do with your life and career. It’s about exploring what your dream job would be, how to get it in 6 simple steps, how to work out if self-employment would be right for you or not. Then it deals with the practicalities of getting back into paid employment, the insider secrets of creating an irresistible CV and cover letter that gets results. In a nutshell, it provides a complete system for getting back into work. It covers 26 aspects of redundancy and provides eighty benefits to you, the reader.

It is unique because it combines two genres; the technical know-how of a how-to book, with the simplicity of an A-Z guide. That’s what makes it a quirky book.

Why do I write/create what I do?

I love reading non-fiction, how-to business books, because I can learn so much from them. I discovered that I have a lot of knowledge from both sides of the redundancy fence that would prove invaluable to others. The recruitment side, whilst managing, and the applying for jobs and being interviewed side, whilst redundant. It is from both points of view that I have been able to create a complete A-Z system for breaking down your barriers of redundancy, to get back into work. It is written from my own life experience in order to help others.

How does your writing/creating process work?

As usual, it starts with a creative explosion, a brainstorm if you like. That in this case was for an A-Z of redundancy, which started with the first few letters in posts on my http://www.beatredundancyblues.wordpress.com blog, and I have adapted for the final book. Once I had written an A-Z of redundancy, I then had to go through every letter and write a how-to for it. I wrote the front and back matter after finishing the main contents of the book. It was tricky to get the font size right and to distinguish the headings from the sub headings in the index. To my knowledge, combining an A-Z guide with a How-to book, has not been done before, and it has been a huge challenge for me to combine them into an easy to read, palatable style, but the challenge has been well worth it.

I tagged three others to continue to keep the blog tour going on Monday 19th of May:

Al from http://kattermonran.com

Mike from http://mikesfilmtalk.com.

Rohan from http://rohan7things.wordpress.com.

So far, it’s just Rohan who has been able to answer the questions. Check out Rohan’s Blog Tour answers: http://rohan7things.wordpress.com/2014/05/19/rohans-writing-methods-madness-and-more-blog-tour/
Wheeks of thanks from Snuggles. I hope you enjoyed her debut?

quirky book writing – The Blog Tour – Break through the barriers of redundancy book – Exclusive

Hi everyone
While this post should simply be called ‘The Blog Tour’, I couldn’t help include a little quirky in there, and yes, I know I used a lower case ‘q’.

Break Through The Barriers Of Redundancy Book Blurb
Break Through The Barriers Of Redundancy Book Blurb

Thanks to Carolyn Huges from The Hurt Healer, I have the opportunity to share some exclusive insights into my Break through the barriers of the redundancy book, as part of The Blog Tour.

The Blog Tour asks 4 questions, that I can’t wait to answer.

1. What am I working on?
I am still working on the final amendments of my book: Break through the barriers of redundancy to get back into work: An A-Z ‘How to’ guide. I keep saying final amendments because I keep finding things to amend, although some of my latest amendments are not needed because the original work is better. Now to tag three others to continue to keep the blog tour going on Monday 19th of May:

Al uses descriptive, yet simple language, that is elegant and easy to understand. Check out his blog and follow it. You won’t be disappointed.
Mike from http://mikesfilmtalk.com. Mike is a fantastic blogger and an extremely talented guy. He works as the Deputy Managing Editor of Entertainment for Guardian Liberty Voice. He is also an actor.
Rohan from http://rohan7things.wordpress.com. Rohan is a jack of all trades.  He is a musician, songwriter, author, professional sound engineer and music producer. He specialises in writing about Stoic philosophy and his blog is titled after his second book “The 7 Things That Made Me Genuinely & Irreversibly Happy: and how they can do the same for you”. The e-book is available to purchase from Amazon for $5.87.
I look forward to reading your answers in a blog post on the 19th of May, and to see who you tag. Thank you guys for taking part, much appreciated.

Fun city!

Hi everyone

I finished 4 days of birthday bliss celebrations in the early hours of this morning. Thanks for all of your birthday wishes and kind comments, I will catch up with personal replies soon.

For my actual birthday day, 24th of April, I went to Brean Leisure Park, otherwise known as Fun City. I have to say, it was amazing fun.

It’s a dog’s life! Re-visited

Hi everyone

I published this post earlier today, but because I did the draft for it in March, it has posted it back in my March archives. Here it is again.

I wrote a previous post regarding a guy who makes dogs out of sand. A few weeks ago, I managed to talk to him and I can reveal a few details about his story.

image

image

image

He is from Romania but lives in Liverpool. It takes him 3-4 hours to build a sand dog. He has a wife and 3 children and this is his only job. He says he doesn’t speak very good English and it is hard for him to get another job. His wife doesn’t work. He says he likes Exeter and wants to move here. Lately I have seen a young boy helping him, which I am assuming is one of his children.

In principle I have finished writing my Break through the barriers of redundancy book, but I still need to go through it again and re-index it.

When others say you can’t – What do you say?

Hi everyone

When others say I can’t, I say I can, and I do it.

One of the key messages I took away from the Business Showcase South West, was that all successful entrepreneurs have one thing in common, they turn their ideas into reality when everyone says they can’t. This was clearly stated in Karen Brady’s speech.

If someone says you can’t do something that you want to do, what do you say?

image

I recently took this photo of a horse drawn carriage. A couple were inside the carriage, wearing their wedding outfits. Presumably, they had just been married.

What sprung to my mind were two things. Some people say you can’t have a horse drawn carriage for your wedding day, that’s not a reality. Well they certainly made it their reality. Second thing, some say you can’t outrun a horse and he has done just that.

When someone says you can’t, know that you can do anything you set your mind to.

I have a saying; there are no rules other than the ones you set for yourself. Dare to be different, embrace your quirky and do whatever you want to do. As my Grandma always says; there is no such word as can’t. She is my hero and a true inspiration.

Have you ever brought your thoughts to life?

Hi everyone

When I took a year out of retail in 2012, I learnt a lot of new concepts. One was the idea that what we have in our minds, can manifest itself in reality, and that we are what we think. I may have heard of this before but never really paid attention to what it meant.
image

Sometimes, I have the uncanny nack of being able to think of something and then an opportunity presents itself for me to be able to carry out that thought. For example on Sunday 9th March, I was returning home from work and I felt like a drink of smoothie or orange juice. Almost immediately after this thought, I was drawn to deviate from my usual walk home to go into my local Co-op. I tied to resist but felt compelled to go in there. Bingo! There it was, a smoothie made with oranges and various other ingredients, reduced from £1.05 to 35p and it was the only one left. So I bought it and drank it straight away.
image

A couple of years ago, I had previously been thinking about my e-Book store and how I would learn to create an e-Book. Although I wasn’t thinking about this at the time, I walked past WH Smith and felt compelled to go into it. I had no idea why, my sixth sense was just telling me that I needed to. My mind was telling me to go to the magazine isle and to look at the magazines, but I had no idea why and then – Bingo! There was a small book all about self-publishing with e-Books. Incredible. I have these moments and feel blessed but sometimes they can also be a little scary.

Have you ever thought of something and it has become a reality, or an opportunity has presented itself to you because of your thoughts?

I have 9 pages of amendments left to do for my Break through the barriers of redundancy book. I then need to give it the once over and get someone to check it before it is published.

Next week I am at the Business Showcase South West and Only Colston networking events in Bristol.

Enjoy your thoughts and your week.
